Legislature Approves Highest Increase Ever

The new guidelines when into effect on September 1, 2025, raising the ceiling for child support calculations from $9,200 per month to $11,700.

Texas Leads Nation in Child Support Collections

According to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the state consistently lead the nation in child support payments and collections, with approximately $5 billion collected every year in more than 1.5 million cases.

Texas Approves Largest Increase in Child Support Cap in History

In legislative action finalized last year, the state of Texas bumped the cap for income for child support payers by 27%. The change was prospective, applying to all new child support cases, any pending cases and any modification requests submitted on or after September 1, 2026. For all orders finalized before the effective date, a party may seek modification to apply to the cap only by showing a material and substantial change in circumstances.

Under the new guidelines, a non-custodial parent with a child support obligation for one child may have to pay as much as $2,340 per month. The ceiling for two children is $2,925 monthly and three or more children can lead to monthly child support payments of up to $3,510.
